Well, to be quite honest and blunt, I’m pretty fucking pissed right now. The past two weeks have been really hectic with me. I’ve had family in the hospital, and my car broke down, so I’ve barely been able to get anything accomplished, nevermind animation. Good news is every one is okay now.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to buy another lamp because of this, or start the animation when I wanted to. I wanted to animate though, so I sat down today and animated a scene (straying off the path a bit). Without two lamps the lighting was uneven, so I diodn’t use any extra lighting, and while the lighting was a little more stable like that, it was still pretty unpredictable. I think it’s my camera and poor lighting. I really need a new camera.
So I did the animation and not only did the lighting suck, but a melting sequence went to quickly and MonkeyJam locked up, leaving me with only 13 seconds of animation, and I was unable to capture more. Sucks. However, I am examing it a bit and I do see the things I need improvement on ,and I think I know how to inprove them, which is always good. So this animation was not completely useless.
However, I did find my shining light in all of this. For the short I’m doing, I needed a variety of creatures, but I didn’t want to use any real world animals. So, I made up about three or four. I animated one of them for the first time today and loved it. It has a lot of characters and potential.
Ultimately, it’s a combination of “The Blob” and a gorrilla. It’s a small blob with arms, that walks by moving it’s arms out in front of it, then pulling it’s body. THe fact that this character doesn’t even have a face (except for an eye that’s undetectable when closed) adds to it’s charm, in my opinion, because eveyr emotion must be conveyed through it’s arms and hands. More to come in this little fist-a-ma-jig creature later.
